The celebrated veteran singer shared a shocking revelation in a now-resurfaced interview, where Mangeshkar explained that someone tried to poison her in 1963. According to Filmfare, the singer shared that she doesn’t like to talk about the incident and neither does her family because of the toll it took on all of them at the time.
Calling it one of the darkest times of her life, Mangeshkar shared that she was bed-ridden and terribly unwell during a period in 1963. The singer shared that after a doctor was called to analyse the situation, Mangeshkar was diagnosed with slow poisoning, with it taking nearly three months for her to get back on her feet and to work.
The singing legend celebrated her 92nd birthday on September 28, surrounded by family and loved ones. Indian prime minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to wish Mangeshkar, writing, “Birthday greetings to respected Lata Didi. Her melodious voice reverberates across the world. She is respected for her humility and passion towards Indian culture. Personally, her blessings are a source of great strength. I pray for Lata Didi’s long and healthy life.”
She was also wished by veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar. “Lata ji, I wish the entire nation on your birthday. How lucky we all are to have Lata Mangeshkar,” he wrote.
“Happy Birthday to dearest Lata ji. World’s most beloved singer, my loving Lata ji, wish you stay healthy and happy always,” tweeted veteran Bollywood star Dharmendra, sharing a picture with Mangeshkar alongside it.
