Thirty-one Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officers and officials have been implicated in the Greece boat tragedy that claimed the lives of at least five Pakistani nationals, according to a report by ARY News.

The suspects, including inspectors, sub-inspectors, and constables, are accused of facilitating illegal travel for those who perished in the incident. They were reportedly stationed at airports across Pakistan, with 19 from Faisalabad, three from Sialkot, two each from Lahore and Islamabad, and five from Quetta. To prevent them from fleeing, their names have been added to the Exit Control List.

The investigation intensified after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif instructed authorities to take swift action against human traffickers, setting a one-week deadline. He also formed a committee led by the interior minister to devise a long-term strategy for combating human trafficking.

As part of the crackdown, the FIA recently arrested two human smugglers, including a woman, and later apprehended two more individuals involved in trafficking from Gujranwala’s Shadman Colony.

FIA Director disclosed that the accused were collaborating with agents to issue fake visas to citizens across the country. These arrests underscore ongoing efforts to dismantle human trafficking networks and secure justice for the victims of the Greece boat tragedy.
