Syed Ali Gillani was born (29 Sept1929 – 1 Sept 2021) in Kashmir. He was a Kashmiri separatist leader in the Indian illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). In the start, Syed was a member of Jamat-e-Islami Kashmir but later on, He founded Tehreek-e-Hurriyat. He also served as the chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, a group of pro-separatist parties in Jammu and Kashmir. He was an elected MLA from the constituency of Sopore, Jammu, and Kashmir for three terms ( 1972, 1977, and 1987).

In 2016, Mr. Gillani wrote a letter to the United Nations listing six confidence-building measures (CBMs) to counter the situation of emergency in the valley after the death of Burhan Muzaffar Wani.
He was often blamed by administration and security Agencies in IIOJK, even by Omar Abdullah as well for militancy in IIOJK on several occasions. He was also blamed for his proposal to lead the last rite prayers in absentia in Srinagar for the slain al-Qaeda leader Usama Bin Laden (maybe the reason for visa rejection of Mr. Gillani when he was advised to go to the USA for his treatment, but the USA denied Visa).
He always remained a strong advocate of the Inclusion of Kashmiris in the dialogue process between Pakistan and India. He often said, peace in Pakistan and India means peace in South Asia but it isn’t possible if any decision is made without the consent of Kashmiris.

Due to Certain issues, Mr. Gillani quit the Hurriyat in June 2020. He died on September 1, 2021, at his Hyderpora residence in Srinagar while he was under house arrest by the Indian Army. Even, it’s publicly announced that masses wouldn’t be allowed to attend his funeral – His family was forced and pressurized by Administration and Security Agencies that if his funeral isn’t offered silently, they’ll take his dead body with them and his funeral would be done at an unknown place. It was always been the desire and last wish of Shaheed Syed Ali Gillani to be buried in “Martyr’s Graveyard ” but the Indian Army doesn’t allow his family to do so.

Losing Ali Gillani, at such a stage, may set fuel to the fire which Mr. Modi and his Hindutava ideology triggered in IIOJK since August 2019 – Because Mr. Gillani was a sensible, Senior, and enlightened person as well as a leader – His death, then stopping masses from attending the funeral, it may be the mistake of Indian Govt which wouldn’t be bearable to each and every Kashmiri living around the Globe.

His Famous slogan was ” Hum Pakistani ha, Pakistan Hamara ha ”
And I believe his last words would be the same too …
