Ramiz Raja, the newly-elected chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has announced that former Australian opener Matthew Hayden and South African bowler Vernon Philander were named as coaches to the Pakistan team for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
Ramiz told a press conference at the Bob Woolmer Indoor School, National High-Performance Centre, Lahore, that Hayden has shared a dressing room with the top-ranked Australian team and will be crucial in lifting the national team’s spirits during the important ICC event.
“I know Vernon, and he’s had some incredible performances against top teams, including Australia.” I’m hoping that the two will help Pakistan cricket perform at its best during the T20 World Cup.”
During his tenure, the new PCB chairman stated that he will review the national cricket team’s caching setup.
“Aimless coaches are to blame for Pakistan’s lack of ‘polished products,’ despite a large pool of talented players.”
“Pakistan’s coaching structure must be overhauled. Coaches must instill fearlessness in their players while not compromising their technique,” Ramiz said, adding that he will work to improve the situation.
The former Pakistan captain had also invited the heroes of the 1992 Cricket World Cup-winning team to attend his debut presser.
