Pakistan Prime Minister and former cricket captain Imran Khan have received the Global Sports Personality Award, also known as the Muhammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award, in recognition of his services to the country, including leading the Pakistan team to victory in the 1992 ICC Cricket World Cup.
The eleventh edition of the MBR Creative Sports Award, the largest in terms of prize money and categories and the first dedicated to sports creativity, was held at Deep Dive Dubai on Tuesday in the presence of Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, and Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Award’s Board of Trustees.
As Prime Minister, he continues to inspire young people by elevating the status of sports in general, and cricket in particular, as well as using sports to empower Pakistani society. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officially registers nearly 42,000 players, and half of the country’s 221 million people identify as cricket fans.
