Prime Minister Imran Khan is launching the Micro Health Insurance Program today in Peshawar, just days before the local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Under the Kamyab Pakistan program, the micro health insurance program would provide free medical care worth Rs1 million per year to 7.5 million families in the province.
The insurance scheme’s launch barely 10 days before the local government election is likely to draw criticism from the ruling PTI’s political opposition.
The Election Commission of Pakistan has released the election schedule for KPK, with the first round of voting set for December 19 in 17 districts.
During his visit to Peshawar, Prime Minister Imran Khan will meet with Chief Minister Mehmood Khan and Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shah Farman, as well as other political figures.
He will attend the Ehsaas Ration Discount Program registration ceremony in the province capital, where he will be briefed by the PM’s Special Assistant for Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, Dr. Sania Nishtar.
The Ehsaas Ration Discount Program will provide groceries to about 20 million families making up 130 million people, belonging to the economically weaker sections.
The prime minister will also interact with the representatives of the traders association and Karyana (grocery) Alliance.
