Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja has announced that drop-in pitches would be installed in Karachi and Lahore to improve the quality of cricket across the country.
Although Asian pitches aren’t recognized for having a lot of bounce and carry, batters from this region have a difficult time dealing with brutal bouncers in places like South Africa and Australia. As a result, Raja decided to set up drop-in pitches in two venues to familiarize their players with bounce-friendly surfaces.
During the players’ selection for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021, PCB also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Arif Habib Group in this respect. Both pitches are expected to cost INR 37 crore, according to the deal.
In the meanwhile, a drop-in track will be installed at Karachi’s Naya Nazimabad Cricket Stadium, with the second venue to be revealed later. The process of putting these pitches in place is projected to be finished in 2022. PCB will be able to host domestic and junior-level matches in the stadium after the procedure is completed.
