ANKARA: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that his Israeli counterpart Isaac Herzog will visit Turkey in mid-March this year.

According to foreign media reports, Tayyip Erdogan told a press conference before his visit to Ukraine that his Israeli counterpart Isaac Herzog is coming to Turkey next month to strengthen Turkish-Israeli relations, and the two countries want to improve bilateral relations.

On the other hand, Turkish media reports say that efforts have been intensified in the last few months to enhance contacts between Turkey and Israel.

In an interview last month, the Turkish president said that the visit of his Israeli counterpart to Turkey would open a new chapter in relations between the two countries.

It should be noted that in 2010, Israel targeted a Turkish boat carrying food aid, in which about 10 volunteers were killed, and since then, relations between the two countries have been strained.

Later in 2013, then-Prime Minister Netanyahu apologized to Turkey and announced $20 million in compensation for the victims.
