Former Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmad has been nominated as caretaker Prime Minister by Prime Minister Imran Khan. According to Pakistan’s constitution, the Prime Minister and the opposition leader must agree on a caretaker Prime Minister.
If they are unable to reach an agreement, the matter will be referred to a parliamentary committee with equal representation from the opposition and treasury benches. If the parliamentary committee cannot agree on a name within three days, the matter will be referred to the Pakistan Election Commission.
