In Iran, women were banned from appearing in Ads after an Ad showing women Biting Ice cream was deemed un-Islamic
Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance has banned women from appearing in advertisements as it seeks to tighten the country’s hijab and chastity laws.
According to a report by Radio Free Europe, the ministry informed advertising agencies in a letter that women are now prohibited from acting in all types of advertisements and commercials.
The directive came shortly after a controversial commercial — showing a woman in a loose hijab biting into a Magnum ice cream — sparked outrage and outrage among Iran’s hardline Islamic leaders.
According to the Mirror, after seeing the video, Iranian clerics were outraged and asked the authorities to sue the ice cream company Domino’s. Officials in turn declared that the ad was “against public decency” and an “insult” to “women’s values”.
