In a rare celestial event, the moon will set directly over the Kaaba tonight. According to Astronomer Engineer Majid Abu Zahra, the moon will be visible just above the Kaaba, the holy place of Muslims.
The moon will be visible to the naked eye Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning and will be 98 percent brighter. He said that the moon will be at an altitude of 89.5 degrees and will be illuminated by 98 percent sunlight.
According to Saudi astronomers, Qiblah can be accurately determined from any place after the direction of the moon. However, the direction of the Kaaba cannot be determined in cities near Mecca, including Jeddah, Taif, and Isfahan.
