Actor and VJ Syeda Madiha Imam, who married Indian filmmaker Moji Basar last year, has shared her thoughts on long-distance marriages, advising against them based on her own experiences.
In a recent discussion with renowned star Faysal Quraishi on his YouTube channel, Imam expressed her belief that such relationships can be “terrible.” Madiha Imam recently opened up about the challenges of long-distance marriage, reflecting on her own experience. She shared, “It was meant to be in my case, but if anyone has a choice, I always advise my friends against long-distance marriages now that I’ve been through it. It’s not easy.”
Imam went on to explain her concerns, noting, “Often, disagreements that could be resolved face-to-face tend to drag on for weeks over text, simply because it’s harder to communicate effectively.”
Highlighting the drawbacks, she added, “Long-distance [marriage] is tough. While there are some positives, like the excitement of reuniting after time apart, the challenges outweigh those moments. I’d much rather live with my partner than try to make up with heart emojis from afar.”
Despite these difficulties, Imam said she and her husband have made a “practical decision” to prioritize their careers while nurturing their bond during the times they’re separated.
Imam married Basar in May of last year, sharing glimpses of their Nikah ceremony in Dubai, followed by a Valima and reception in India.
