The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced former international fast bowler Aqib Javed as the interim head coach of the Pakistan men’s cricket team for white-ball formats until the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

During his interim tenure, Aqib will retain his position as a senior member of the National Selection Committee and will take on additional responsibilities following the conclusion of the Champions Trophy, the PCB confirmed in an official statement.

The board also stated that the recruitment process for a permanent white-ball head coach will begin soon, with the goal of finalizing the appointment by the end of the tournament, which is set to take place from February 19 to March 9.

The coaching role became vacant after Gary Kirsten’s resignation, prompting red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie to oversee the white-ball side during the recent tour of Australia. Gillespie will now resume his role for the upcoming two-Test series in South Africa.

Pakistan’s men’s cricket team has a packed schedule, with three ODIs and three T20Is against Zimbabwe from November 24 to December 5, followed by another white-ball series against South Africa from December 10 to 22. In preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy, Pakistan will also host New Zealand and South Africa for an ODI triangular series from February 8 to 14.
