The government has raised petrol and diesel prices, adding to public concerns amid soaring inflation, sources reported.

Petrol prices have risen by Rs. 3.72 per liter, bringing the new rate to Rs. 252.10 per liter, according to an official notification. High-Speed Diesel has also seen an increase of Rs. 3.29 per liter, now priced at Rs. 258.43 per liter.

Sources attribute this hike to elevated premiums on petroleum products in global markets and higher import costs.

On October 31, the federal government had announced revised petroleum prices for the following fortnight, increasing petrol by Rs. 1.35 to Rs. 248.38 per liter and high-speed diesel by Rs. 3.85 to Rs. 255.14 per liter.

Separately, on November 30, 2024, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) announced a rise in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices for December. The new rate for LPG is set at Rs. 254.30 per kilogram, while the cost of a domestic cylinder has increased to Rs. 3,079.79 from Rs. 2,999.47 in November.

This LPG price hike, driven by the rising value of the US dollar, will come into effect on December 1, further straining consumers already grappling with inflation and escalating fuel costs.
