The federal government has requested a charter of demands from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) following the conclusion of the first round of talks between the two sides in the National Assembly, as reported.
The meeting, chaired by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, brought together government and PTI representatives to discuss progress amidst the current political challenges.
The government’s negotiation team included Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Rana Tanveer Hussain, Irfan Siddiqui, Aleem Khan, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Naveed Qamar, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and Farooq Sattar. Representing the opposition were Asad Qaiser, Hamid Raza, and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, with Salman Akram Raja expected to join in subsequent discussions.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur was unable to attend the session due to a cabinet meeting, while Opposition Leader Omar Ayub was absent because of a court appearance.
The next round of negotiations is scheduled for January 2.

‘Negotiation as the Path to Resolution’
Speaker Ayaz Sadiq welcomed participants from both sides, highlighting the importance of dialogue in strengthening democracy. He praised the discussions as a promising step towards addressing national challenges.
“Democracy flourishes through negotiation, and the joint efforts of the government and opposition are vital for overcoming the country’s difficulties,” Sadiq said.
He reminded the participants of their responsibility to the 240 million citizens represented by parliament, emphasizing that political stability is essential for economic progress. He urged both sides to foster harmony and work collaboratively to address Pakistan’s pressing issues.
