The National Command Operations Center (NCOC) has banned gatherings in wedding halls in major cities, including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Hyderabad, Multan, and Rawalpindi, since November 20.
However, people will be allowed to hold open weddings and other events. A maximum of one thousand people will be allowed to participate.
The new rules will also apply to Gilgit, Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Peshawar, Quetta and Gujranwala, Gujarat, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, and Abbottabad.
The decisions taken by the NCOC are aimed at spreading the second wave of coronavirus.
The NCOC has also decided to direct public and private entities to halve their workforce. Only 50% of their employees will work in offices while the rest will work from home.
The government will also implement smart lockdown in virus-affected areas.
The virus has so far killed 6,923 people in Pakistan, according to official figures. On October 28, Dr. Faisal Sultan, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan for Health, announced a second wave of the deadly virus had begun in the country.
During the media briefing, he said that health officials receive 700 to 750 cases of coronavirus daily, and the death rate has also increased.
