Years of tension have ended and relations between Saudi Arabia and Qatar have been restored. According to the details provided by the Gulf News Agency, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Ahmed Nasser Al-Sabah has made a big claim regarding the restoration of relations between Saudi Arabia and Qatar. According to the Kuwaiti minister, Qatar’s years-long boycott has been lifted, and Saudi Arabia and Qatar have agreed to restore ties. The two Gulf states have agreed to restore ground and air traffic. Saudi Arabia has opened its airspace, land, and sea borders to Qatar.

Immediate implementation of this agreement was also initiated. The resumption of relations between Saudi Arabia and Qatar is being hailed as the biggest news in the Gulf. It is expected that other Gulf countries will end their boycott of Qatar after Saudi Arabia lifts the boycott.

It should be noted that a month ago, it was reported in the Arab media that the leadership of Saudi Arabia and Qatar were trying to end the years-long tension. It was claimed that there had been recent talks between the authorities of Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar in which significant progress had been made and the parties agreed to end the three-year-old dispute soon.

Following the news, senior officials from Qatar and Kuwait, which acted as mediators, confirmed the development. In a statement issued a month ago, Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman al-Thani expressed hope for a solution to the Gulf crisis, saying things were moving in the right direction.

Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan also expressed hope that efforts to resolve the dispute would be successful. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Egypt cut off diplomatic relations in 2017, accusing Qatar of supporting terrorism and having ties with Iran. These countries had made 13 demands to Qatar, including the closure of the Al Jazeera channel, the evacuation of the Turkish base, and the severance of ties with the Muslim Brotherhood.
