A fire broke out at the world’s largest vaccine manufacturing unit in India. According to details, a fire brigade has been called after a fire broke out on the fifth floor of the serum institute’s production unit in Pune, India on Friday evening. More than 10 fire brigade vehicles are on the scene.
The building was used to make a vaccine designed to treat tuberculosis. Top company officials say the fire will not affect the production of the covid vaccine. Suresh Yadav, executive director of the company Confirming the fire, the unit said that the BCG vaccine is being prepared in the fire-affected unit, which is the initial dose of TB.
The Covid vaccine was also being developed at the Serum Institute of India in collaboration with AstraZeneca and Oxford University. The Cove Shield is one of the two vaccines approved for emergency use in India.
The cause of the fire at the Sarm Institute of India is yet to be ascertained. Sources said that the covid vaccine was not being manufactured at the destination where the fire broke out. However, the building under construction is adjacent to the plant where the vaccine was prepared.
