The cabinet of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has approved the opening of its embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel. According to media reports, the UAE government has announced the opening of the embassy in Tel Aviv.
The two countries reached a landmark agreement in August last year to establish diplomatic relations. Former US President Donald Trump mediated the deal.
A joint statement issued by the United Arab Emirates and Israel following the signing of the agreement stated that “this historic diplomatic breakthrough will promote peace in the Middle East.”
Since the agreement, the two countries have signed a number of other agreements to strengthen cooperation in a number of areas.
The UAE’s first flight arrived in Tel Aviv in October last year, a month after diplomatic relations returned to normal.
On the return flight, Etihad Airways was boarded by Israeli tourism experts who spent two days in the United Arab Emirates.
