Fifty members of the opposition have been convicted and sentenced to life in prison for attacking the convoy of Bangladesh’s current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

According to news agency sources, the convicts include former opposition BNP MP and current acting chairman of the party Tariq Rehman.

According to the prosecutor, the court has sentenced 50 members of the opposition to prison for the attack two decades ago, three to ten years in prison and the rest to various sentences.

In 2002, the convoy of then-opposition leader Sheikh Hasina was attacked with stones and sticks.

On the other hand, the BNP spokesperson termed the case against the member as false.
