At least 16 were killed and 32 were wounded in a blast that hit a Shia mosque in Afghanistan’s city Kandahar on Friday, hospital administration told to AFP.
“The Mirwais Hospital received 16 dead bodies and 32 wounded,” a spokesperson for the city’s major hospital claimed.
The cause of the explosions was not immediately discovered, but it happened roughly one week after the terrorist Islamic State claimed responsibility for a suicide bomb assault on Shia believers in the northern city of Kunduz.
According to Interior Ministry spokesperson Qari Saeed Khosti, the explosion resulted in several casualties.
According to Khosti, authorities were collecting intelligence on the explosion.
At a tweet, he wrote, “We are saddened to discover that an explosion occurred in a Shia brotherhood mosque in Kandahar city’s first district, in which a number of our compatriots were martyred and wounded.”
“The Islamic Emirate’s special forces have arrived in the region to establish the nature of the event and arrest the offenders.”
Many individuals seemed to be dead or badly injured on the mosque’s floor, according to photographs shared on social media by journalists.
