Former First Lady Bushra Bibi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur departed for Islamabad on Sunday, leading a PTI convoy for the party’s planned protest.
Earlier, the convoy’s departure from Peshawar faced delays due to a leadership dispute between Bushra Bibi and Gandapur. According to the schedule, Gandapur was supposed to head the convoy, but sources reveal that Bushra Bibi insisted on taking charge, leading to tensions within the party.
Gandapur reportedly argued, “The party founder stated you are not involved in politics,” urging Bushra Bibi to stay home while he led the convoy. The disagreement caused further delays, adding to the challenges PTI faces during its nationwide protests.
Meanwhile, in response to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest in Islamabad, authorities have sealed all entry and exit points of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Containers have been placed on key routes, including Faizabad Flyover, with heavy police presence in the area.
Major roads like Murree Road, the Motorway, Rawat, T-Chowk, Taxila, Margalla, and Mandrah have been blocked, alongside highways such as the Murree Expressway and Hazara Expressway. Over 6,000 police personnel have been deployed across Rawalpindi to tighten security.
Authorities conducted overnight raids to detain PTI workers, resulting in the arrest of over 170 activists from various locations. Prisoner transport buses have been stationed in the city to manage detainees.
PTI is moving forward with its planned nationwide protests today, following the call of party founder Imran Khan.
