At least eight people, including two sons of a former provincial minister, were killed and 10 others were injured in a firing incident at a funeral in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Lower Dir area on Friday.
According to local reports, the incident occurred during a funeral prayer in the Tormang Dara district of Lower Dir.
Sources claim that the second son of the former provincial minister was injured during the firing at the funeral but later passed away.
The police have imposed curfew to maintain law and order, and no one is allowed to enter the area.
According to police officials, the bodies of the injured and the deceased have been shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Timargarha.
KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has taken notice of the incident and requested a report from the concerned district administration and police.
CM Khan directed the police to take the necessary steps for immediate arrest of the shooters.
“This incident of firing during a funeral is highly reprehensible,” the CM said, adding that police and other administrative bodies should ensure the prevention of such incidents in the future.
He expressed his regret over the loss of human lives in the incident and offered his condolences and sympathy to the families of the deceased.
CM Khan also wished the injured a speedy recovery.
