Drone flies lungs between two hospitals in Canada for transplant patients

For the first time, a pair of human lungs destined for an organ transplant surgery were flown between two hospitals by drone.
At the end of September, the donor’s lungs traveled 1.5 kilometers in 6 minutes between two Toronto hospitals in the city center.
According to CBC, the lucky recipient is Alan Hodak, a 63-year-old engineer and drone enthusiast who has been suffering from pulmonary fibrosis since 2019.
The University Health Network hospitals and the Québec-based company Unither Bioélectronique coordinated the drone flight. Unither Bioélectronique specializes in both manufacturing organs suitable for human transplant and quick and efficient delivery methods such as drones.
