Tehran: In the Iranian presidential election, Ebrahim Raisi, a hardline ideologue and a favorite candidate of the establishment, is elected president with 60 percent of the vote.

According to Iranian state television, Ebrahim Raisi won the presidential election with 62% of the vote. In the election, 28 million people took part in the polls, of which 178,000 votes went to Ebrahim Raisi.

Even before the official announcement of Ebrahim Raisi’s victory, outgoing Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has said that a new president has been elected through peaceful elections. I congratulate the successful candidate.
Hassan Rouhani did not name the new president but said that we know who got the required votes in the election and who the people have elected today.

Unlike Hassan Rouhani, two other hardline candidates, Mohsin Rezai and Amir Hussain Ghazi Zada Hashmi congratulated Ebrahim Raisi by name.

Similarly, reformist candidate Abdul Nasr Hamati, who is contesting the presidential election, also congratulated Ebrahim Raisi on his victory on Twitter. Abdul Nasir Hamati was also a former central bank governor.

Ebrahim Raisi, 60, has held key positions since the Iranian revolution. At the age of only 20, he became the prosecutor of the two provinces and was promoted to deputy prosecutor of the capital and then to the chief prosecutor.

He later served as the Deputy Chief Justice for ten years and has been serving as the Chief Justice since 2019. During the recent presidential election campaign, Ebrahim Raisi also had the support of the Establishment.

Human rights groups and opposition groups have accused Ebrahim Raisi Raisi on the same grounds.
