The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has given green signal over the use of Electronic Voting Machine (EVMs) in Local Government in Punjab.
In a high level meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja last day, ECP has said that the Commission had no reservations over the use of EVMs in Punjab LG elections, saying that ECP is ready to use EVM in the Punjab LG elections if the Federal or Provincial government manufacture machine.
The Commission also informed the government that a total of 205000 EVMs would be required for the LG elections in Punjab. The Commission also said that if the ECP had to but the machines from market so it will be done as per the rules.
The Commission also suggested the government to use EVMs for pilot testing in few village councils during the Punjab LG elections.
