When the government expressed reservations over the results of the Senate elections 2021, the Election Commission of Pakistan also took notice, after which the ECP has reacted today and instead of responding to the allegations, it has retaliated.

The ECP also reviewed the complaints received from Islamabad during the Senate elections and the allegations against the ECP in a press conference after the election of government ministers.

Reacting to the allegations of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the Election Commission said that we can neither ignore nor amend the Constitution and the law to please anyone, so let us work and do not throw mud on the institutions.

The ECP said that this body is independent and sovereign and can do what the constitution and law allow, and can do what the constitution and law allow. The ECP added that if anyone has any objections to these decisions, they should take the constitutional route.

The statement said that it was astonishing that those who lost in the presence of the same staff in the same constituency under the same roof on the same day, those who lost, and those who won were accepted. Isn’t this an open contradiction? While accepting the results of all other provinces, the Election Commission rejects the result which has been commented on and expressed displeasure.

While the ECP has issued a press release on the whole issue, it has not taken any steps to eradicate horse-trading in this election as there is no notice on the video of Ali Haider Gilani before the election. No steps have been taken.

Instead of acknowledging weakness in all its electoral affairs, the ECP has told the government that such statements are tantamount to weakening the national institution.
