The popular animated series Courage the Cowardly Dog head writer David Steven Cohen passed away at the age of 58 after battling cancer.

His iconic contributions to children’s television resulted in numerous masterpieces that entertained young audiences.

Anime historian Jerry Beck confirmed Cohen’s passing in a Facebook post.

Cohen was known for writing some of the most memorable episodes of Courage the Cowardly Dog, mixing humor with spooky storytelling. Fans loved episodes like Klub Katz, 1000 Years of Courage, Forbidden Hat of Gold, and The Sand Whale Strikes.

He joined John R. Dilworth’s team in Season 1 and later became the head writer in Season 2. Cohen continued working on the show through Seasons 2, 3, and 4, with his second-to-last episode marking his final contribution before the series ended in 2002.

Outside of Courage the Cowardly Dog, Cohen also helped shape other popular animated series like Balto, The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss, and Phil of the Future.

His passing is a great loss to colleagues, friends, and fans, but his storytelling legacy will always be remembered in the world of animation.
