In the first Test match between Pakistan and New Zealand, after returning to the pavilion of half the team for 52 runs in the first innings, captain Muhammad Rizwan and Faheem Ashraf supported the team by scoring half-centuries and saved the team from follow-on.

On the third day of the first Test of the series at Mount Manganui, the Pakistani team resumed their first innings at 30 for one. Later, Muhammad Abbas fell victim to Bolt. Earlier, on the second day of the match, the Kiwis scored 431 in their first innings thanks to 129 runs by Captain Williamson. Ross Taylor (70), Watling (73), and Henry Nichols (56) were the standouts for the Kiwis. For Pakistan, Shaheen Shah Afridi took four wickets, Yasir Shah three, and Muhammad Abbas, Fahim Ashraf, and Naseem Shah. There was one wicket in the section.

When Pakistan started their first innings on the second day, Shaun Masood returned with just 10 runs on a total score of 28.
