The World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), which is already followed by 64 countries, contains provisions (for vehicles, their parts, systems, and equipment) related to safety and environmental aspects, including performance-oriented test requirements and administrative procedures.

Pakistan had committed to adopt these laws in April 2020, however the majority of manufacturers failed to do so. The government has now made some UN vehicle regulations, such as quality assurance of tyres, lighting, brakes, seatbelts, steering, rear-view mirrors, anti-theft systems, airbags, and other safety criteria, mandatory for all car firms under the new policy.

Small automobiles in Pakistan are frequently devoid of airbags, particularly Pak Suzuki vehicles, which appear to be disproportionately affected by this policy. The following is a list of all vehicles available for purchase in Pakistan that do not have airbags:

Suzuki Cultus (VXR)
Suzuki Alto (VX)
Suzuki Ravi
Suzuki Wagon R (VXR)
Suzuki Wagon R (VXL)
Suzuki Bolan
Changan Karvaan
United Alpha
United Bravo

The Suzuki Swift is also on the list, but it has been phased out in favor of the new model, which is due to come soon and is slated to contain airbags. All companies will now be required to put airbags in their cars in order to comply with the WP.29 policy guidelines.
