All-rounder Imad Wasim announced his retirement from international cricket on Friday while pledging to continue playing domestic and franchise cricket.
In a heartfelt message shared on X, Imad expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent Pakistan and reflected on his journey.
“After much thought and reflection, I have decided to retire from international cricket. Representing Pakistan on the world stage has been the greatest honor of my life, and every moment wearing the green jersey has been unforgettable,” he wrote.
Imad thanked his fans, stating, “Your unwavering support, love, and passion have always been my biggest strength. From the highs to the lows, your encouragement has pushed me to give my best for our beloved country.”
While retiring from international duties, Imad emphasized his commitment to continue entertaining fans through domestic and franchise cricket. “I look forward to continuing my journey in cricket and hope to keep entertaining you all in new ways,” he said.
Imad’s retirement comes after a notable international career that began in May 2015 against Zimbabwe. Over the years, he represented Pakistan in 55 ODIs and 75 T20Is, amassing 1,540 runs and taking 117 wickets. He was also a key player in Pakistan’s 2017 Champions Trophy-winning squad and participated in several major tournaments, including the 2016 T20 World Cup, 2019 ODI World Cup, 2021 T20 World Cup, and 2024 T20 World Cup.
Interestingly, Imad had previously announced his retirement in November 2023 but reversed his decision in March 2024, declaring his availability for T20I cricket after discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
At 34, Imad’s international cricket chapter concludes, but his contributions to Pakistan cricket will be remembered fondly.
