Imran Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has officially accepted the resignation of Ali Amin Gandapur as PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) President. Gandapur had submitted his resignation in line with directives from PTI’s founder, which was later approved by Imran Khan.
This decision follows the recent appointment of Junaid Akbar as the new PTI K-P President, replacing Gandapur. The leadership change comes amidst significant political shifts within the party. On Saturday, Imran Khan, the founder of PTI, relieved Gandapur, who also serves as the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, from his role as party president and appointed Junaid Akbar as his successor.

The announcement was made by PTI Secretary General Barrister Salman Akram Raja, marking a strategic move by the party as it engages in ongoing negotiations with the ruling PML-N coalition. Junaid Akbar’s appointment as PTI K-P President followed his unopposed election as Chairman of the National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), a position that had remained vacant since the February 2024 general elections.
While there were rumors of Gandapur’s potential removal as Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, sources confirmed that this issue was not discussed during his recent meeting with Imran Khan at Adiala Jail on Monday. The meeting, which drew significant political attention, lasted for about an hour and focused on various topics, including development projects and the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Gandapur left for Islamabad after the meeting without speaking to the media.
The discussions have sparked speculation about their implications for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s political landscape and PTI’s broader national strategy. As the party navigates complex political dynamics, the reshuffling of leadership in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa represents a significant development that could shape PTI’s future direction in the region.
