Barcelona: John McAfee, a British-American computer security expert and founder of the famous anti-virus company “McAfee”, was found mysteriously dead in a prison in Barcelona, Spain yesterday, but the possible cause is being identified as suicide.
John McAfee, 75, was arrested last year before leaving Barcelona airport for Turkey.
He was facing several cases of tax evasion and financial manipulation in the United States, while US courts had declared him a fugitive due to his long absence from court.
Following his arrest in Spain, the US Department of Justice petitioned a Spanish court to extradite McAfee to the United States so that the cases against him could proceed.
On June 22, a Spanish court granted the request to extradite McAfee to the United States, after which he was to be transferred to the United States today in the custody of US authorities.
According to reports, John McAfee denied the allegations against him and said that the US government was not ready to tolerate his political views. And that’s why all these cases have been made.
Various European news agencies say that John McAfee’s death appears to be the result of suicide because he had been under severe psychological pressure for several days. It is also being said that all the evidence at the scene indicates suicide.
John McAfee first rose to prominence in 1987 when he developed the world’s first commercial anti-virus software under his own name, McAfee, which he also founded a company called McAfee Associates to sell.
He sold the company to Intel Corporation in 2010, all of whose products and services are now being provided under “Intel Security”.
John McAfee was also interested in politics. He was also nominated by the Liberal Party for the presidency in the 2016 and 2020 US elections but failed to win the election.
