The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, including Yasmin Rashid, Hammad Azhar, and Omar Sarfraz Cheema.
The warrants were issued after the PTI Punjab leaders failed to appear before the court in connection with the trial of the Wazirabad attack case. Additional PTI leaders, including Iftikhar Ahmed, Muhammad Sarfraz, Shakeel Zaman, Amna, Shaneela Ali, and Hamza Altaf, have also been named in the warrants.
The ATC has instructed the Station House Officer (SHO) of Wazirabad to arrest the PTI leaders and present them in court as witnesses. So far, the court has recorded statements from 37 prosecution witnesses, with testimony from five doctors who treated the injured scheduled for December 11.
The case relates to the November 3, 2022, gun attack on former prime minister and PTI chairman Imran Khan during the party’s long march at Allahwala Chowk in Wazirabad. Naveed Meher, the prime suspect, was apprehended at the scene, and a First Information Report (FIR) was registered on November 7, 2022.
A Joint Investigation Team (JIT), formed under the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997 to probe the incident, later revealed that the suspect had undergone training. The investigation into the attack remains ongoing.
