Norway’s Seasonal Work Visa: Key Changes Announced for 2025

Norway’s Seasonal Work Visa program, which supports thousands of foreign workers annually, is set to undergo major revisions in 2025, as reported by Schengen news sources. These changes will impact eligibility criteria, application requirements, and the range of qualifying job roles.

Eligibility and Job Categories

The revised program will focus on roles driven by seasonal demand, including:

  • Agriculture: Crop harvesting and tree planting
  • Logging Operations
  • Tourism
  • Specific Construction Roles

However, trades such as carpentry and painting will no longer be eligible under the updated scheme.

Applicants must secure full-time employment with a registered Norwegian company as a prerequisite. Employment with multiple employers is permitted, provided concrete job offers are obtained from each.

Additional requirements include proof of accommodation, sufficient financial resources for self-support, and mandatory health insurance. A new condition mandates that visa holders spend at least six months outside Norway before reapplying.

Application Process

Applications can be submitted through the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) or a local embassy, followed by a mandatory biometrics appointment. Authorities emphasize the importance of providing complete documentation to avoid delays.

Plan Ahead

Officials advise applicants to begin the process early, particularly during peak holiday seasons, to account for potential delays. Initiating applications immediately after securing employment is strongly recommended.

Labour Demand in Norway

The Norwegian Ministry of Labour and Social Inclusion plans to issue up to 6,000 residence permits annually for seasonal workers, reflecting a growing demand in key industries.

These changes aim to streamline the program while addressing Norway’s evolving labour market needs.
