Pakistan reports its first case of new corona-virus variant Omicron in a woman on Wednesday in Karachi, according to the Sindh health department.
Mehar Khursheed, the media coordinator for the provincial health department, confirmed the discovery of the first Omicron case in a woman from Karachi. She stated the infected woman was unvaccinated when she was taken to Aga Khan University Hospital for treatment.
The 65-year-old woman was discharged from the hospital and is currently isolated in the home, according to the District health department. The infected woman does not have any travel history.
According to the notification, the rapid response team was “taken on board immediately” for tracing, testing, quarantining, vaccination, and other preventive measures to control the infection’s spread as per the guidelines of the National Command and Operation Center.
The woman’s family was also called “immediately” by the district’s health team to obtain a detailed travel history and hunt down her contacts.
Two of the woman’s contacts have been admitted to the Aga Khan University Hospital after testing positive for the corona-virus but not for the Omicron type, as per the notification.
According to the notification, the district’s deputy commissioner has also been asked to take the necessary step — micro smart lock-down.
