Pakistan’s spinner, Noman Ali, has been awarded the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for October 2024, surpassing strong competition from South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada and New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner.
The 37-year-old left-arm orthodox bowler played a pivotal role in Pakistan’s remarkable 2-1 Test series victory over England at home, marking the team’s first home series win since 2021.
Noman’s exceptional performances throughout the series saw him claim an impressive 20 wickets at an average of 13.85. His efforts helped Pakistan secure a memorable Test series win on home soil.
“I am truly honored to be named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month,” Noman said in a statement. “I am extremely grateful to my teammates, who supported me throughout this historic series win against England. These kinds of victories are always special for the team and the country.”
Two standout performances in October showcased Noman’s brilliance with the ball. In the second Test, defending a target of 297 runs, Noman recorded career-best figures of 8/46, dismantling England’s batting lineup and helping Pakistan to a crucial win.
In the series-deciding third Test in Rawalpindi, Noman’s contributions extended beyond his bowling. He played a key role with the bat, scoring 45 runs at number nine, which helped Pakistan establish a 77-run lead in the first innings. Later, his match-winning six-wicket haul bowled England out for a mere 112 runs, securing a dominant nine-wicket victory and sealing the series.
Noman is the first Pakistani male cricketer to receive the ICC Player of the Month award since Babar Azam’s win in August 2023.
