PCB Proposes Flexible Arrangements for India During 2025 Champions Trophy

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has proposed that the Indian cricket team may return to their home country after each match during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, to minimize their stay in Pakistan. This suggestion, aimed at addressing security concerns, would allow the Indian team to fly back to cities like Chandigarh or New Delhi between matches.

The proposal comes amid uncertainty regarding India’s participation, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) awaits approval from the Indian government for the team’s visit to Pakistan. India has not toured Pakistan since 2008, and the two nations have not engaged in a bilateral series since 2012-13.

Set to take place from February 19 to March 9, 2025, the Champions Trophy will feature eight top cricketing nations, including India, Australia, New Zealand, England, South Africa, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan, based on their 2023 ODI World Cup performances. Matches will be held at three venues: Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Lahore, with India’s games originally scheduled to take place in Lahore for ease of access.

However, broadcasters have suggested moving one of India’s group-stage matches, potentially against New Zealand, to Rawalpindi to enhance broadcast reach and fan engagement. The PCB has expressed its willingness to accommodate this change while ensuring India’s comfort and security.

Additionally, India will have a ten-day gap between their second and third group-stage matches, providing the team an opportunity to return home for training or rest, with the PCB facilitating smooth travel arrangements.

The PCB has reassured the BCCI that the proposal for India to return home between matches is not based on security concerns but is meant to prioritize the comfort of the Indian players. Whether India opts to play all their matches in Lahore or split them between Lahore and Rawalpindi, the PCB is prepared to offer top-tier facilities and hospitality.

With India placed in Group A alongside host Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand, the PCB remains committed to ensuring a smooth and secure experience for the Indian team throughout the tournament.
