In response to escalating air pollution, the Punjab government has implemented a work-from-home policy for both public and private offices in Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and Multan divisions.
Under this new initiative, offices will operate with 50% in-person staff, with the remaining employees working remotely. The goal is to reduce commuting-related pollution and minimize residents’ exposure to the hazardous smog covering the region. This decision was announced during a press conference in Lahore by Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, who highlighted the government’s broader strategy to tackle the health risks posed by the ongoing smog crisis.
Aurangzeb explained that reducing daily travel and limiting the number of employees physically present in offices would ease congestion and help lower emissions in areas severely impacted by pollution. Government departments have been directed to conduct meetings and employee communication virtually, using platforms like Zoom.
She stressed that these temporary restrictions are essential to address the serious health risks associated with the smog, which has been worsened by cross-border winds carrying pollutants. The government has urged all organizations to cooperate fully with these measures to help improve air quality and protect public health.
