MOSCOW: Russia has recalled its ambassador to the United States following a statement from President Biden against alleged Russian interference in US elections.

According to a foreign news agency, in an interview with a US TV channel, President Biden had said that Russian President Putin would have to pay the price for interfering in the US elections. He was responding to a question on a US intelligence report accusing Russia and Iran of meddling in US elections.

Russia’s foreign ministry said in a statement that Anatoly Antonov had been summoned to Moscow for consultations on the future of Russia-US relations. The statement said the move was aimed at preventing irreparable damage to bilateral relations.
