In a significant milestone, former Indian tennis star Sania Mirza was appointed as a sports ambassador by the Dubai Sports Council on Wednesday.

Established in 2005, the Dubai Sports Council is the official organization responsible for developing the sports sector in the UAE’s capital, Dubai. The council oversees seven local sports clubs in Dubai and promotes physical activity, particularly encouraging participation among women and children.

The 37-year-old athlete shared her excitement with fans on Instagram, saying, “Honoured and grateful to be a sports ambassador for Dubai! Thank you for this incredible opportunity, Dubai Sports Council.”

The appointment event saw notable attendees from the sports world, including UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh. Fans celebrated Sania’s new role with congratulatory messages and praises on social media.

Sania retired from professional tennis after her final match at the Australian Open in 2023. Since then, she has been focusing on new ventures, along with spending quality time with her family and son, Izhaan Mirza-Malik.
