Sri Lanka has postponed school exams for millions of students due to a lack of printing paper, as the country faces its worst financial crisis since its independence in 1948.
The term tests, which were scheduled to begin a week from Monday, were postponed indefinitely on Saturday due to an acute paper shortage, with Colombo lacking funds to finance imports.
“School principals are unable to hold the tests because printers are unable to secure foreign exchange to import necessary paper and ink,” the Western Province Department of Education stated.
