SUPARCO to Launch Pakistan’s First Indigenous EO-1 Satellite from China on January 17
The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has announced the launch of Pakistan’s first Indigenous Electro-Optical (EO-1) Satellite. The satellite will be launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre (JSLC) in China on January 17, 2025.
This groundbreaking mission highlights SUPARCO’s commitment to advancing Pakistan’s capabilities in space science and technology. The EO-1 satellite, developed entirely in Pakistan, represents a significant leap forward in the country’s space program and aims to deliver valuable benefits in various sectors.
Enhancing National Capabilities
The EO-1 satellite will support Pakistan’s efforts in resource monitoring, disaster management, and sustainable development. Key areas of impact include:
- Agriculture: Enabling precision farming, monitoring crops, assessing irrigation needs, and predicting yields to bolster food security.
- Urban Development: Assisting in infrastructure tracking, managing urban sprawl, and facilitating regional and city planning.
- Environmental Monitoring: Providing updates on natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, and landslides while tracking deforestation and land erosion.
- Natural Resource Management: Monitoring minerals, oil and gas fields, glacier recession, and water resources to support extraction and conservation initiatives.
A Major Milestone for Pakistan’s Space Program
The EO-1 satellite is expected to contribute significantly to Pakistan’s economic growth by enabling informed decision-making and fostering sustainable development. This milestone aligns with the objectives of Pakistan’s National Space Policy and underscores SUPARCO’s role in positioning the nation as a key player in space technology.
With this launch, Pakistan takes a major step forward in its space journey, reflecting the country’s growing expertise and ambition in the field of space exploration and innovation.
