On Saturday, the first day of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, over 1,000 Muslims broke their fast and attended the “first-ever” Tarawih prayers in New York City’s iconic Times Square.
The event’s organisers provided 1,500 meals to attendees from across the United States and as far away as Montreal, Canada. They also recited Holy Quran verses and discussed the significance of the month.
“We’re here to explain our religion to all those who don’t know what Islam is all about,” SQ, the organiser, told CBS News. “Islam is a peaceful religion.”
