ANKARA: Turkey has demanded that the United States lift sanctions on Iran.
According to a foreign news agency, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday called on the United States to lift sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program and restore the 2015 nuclear deal, a move aimed at regional and economic stability in the region.
Both the United States and Iran are urging the other side to take the lead in negotiations to restore the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Strategy (JCPOA) agreement. Following the agreement, a number of sanctions on Iran were eased in exchange for limiting its nuclear activities.
Last month, Erdogan said in a telephone conversation with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani that he saw progress in talks between the United States and Iran and wanted the United States to lift sanctions on Iran.
