Pakistan and the US are in talks and close to an agreement on the use of Pakistani airspace for military and intelligence operations in Afghanistan. As per the CNN report.
According to the article, Pakistan expressed a desire to sign an MoU with the US government over the issue, citing three people familiar with the contents of a classified briefing held by US President Joe Biden with members of Congress.
In exchange, Islamabad wants support with its counter-terrorism activities and managing its relationship with India, according to a source.
However, nothing is fixed yet because discussions between the two nations are still underway, and the terms of the agreement might change, according to a source mentioned in the paper.
For the first time in two decades, the United States has no military presence in Afghanistan, as its forces withdrew on August 31.
After two decades of conflict in Afghanistan, some nations criticized the United States’ withdrawal as hasty.
“The US military now utilizes Pakistani airspace to reach Afghanistan as part of ongoing intelligence-gathering efforts, however, there is no formal agreement in place to ensure ongoing access to a crucial portion of airspace required for the US to reach Afghanistan.” according to a CNN report.
