Tragedy struck at the premiere of South Indian superstar Allu Arjun’s highly anticipated film, Pushpa 2: The Rule, when a stampede-like situation at Hyderabad’s Sandhya Theatre led to the death of a woman and left her son critically injured.
The chaotic incident occurred on Wednesday night, December 4, as fans eagerly gathered to celebrate the release of the action-packed sequel. The frenzy escalated when Allu Arjun made a surprise appearance at the venue under heavy security. The excitement of the crowd turned into chaos as the theatre’s main gates collapsed, causing a surge that resulted in a stampede-like situation.
Revathi, a 39-year-old resident of Hyderabad’s Dilsukhnagar, was attending the premiere with her husband Bhaskar and their two children when she and her son, Sri Tej, were caught in the commotion. Both lost consciousness and were rushed to Durga Bhai Deshmukh Hospital. Tragically, Revathi was declared dead upon arrival, while her son was transferred to KIMS Hospital in critical condition. Her body was later moved to Gandhi Mortuary.
Arjun, after attending the event and waving to fans from the sunroof of his car, was seen leaving the venue shortly after the incident. He also urged fans to make way for the vehicles to pass.
The sequel, which stars Allu Arjun as Pushpa Raj, Fahadh Faasil as the antagonist SP Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat, and Rashmika Mandanna reprising her role as Srivalli, has generated immense excitement among fans. However, this unfortunate event overshadowed the film’s release celebrations.
