You may have heard about Bajraangi Bhaijaan, who went to great lengths to ensure Munni returned home safely, and here is our Hero, Arab Shah, who has been dubbed “Bhai Jaan” by these adorable little ladies since he has been dropping them off at school for free every day since 2015.
Since 2015, Arab Shah, a poor auto-rickshaw driver from Peshawar who is a graduate but had to stop his studies due to financial restrictions, has been providing free transportation to over 100+ girls in his region.
According to Bhai Jaan, he is providing free rides in order to promote girls’ education in his community. Arab Shah is known in his neighborhood for his kindness and reliability, and girls refer to him as “Bhai Jaan,” as if he were a father figure to them.
Hina Khan, a third-grader, said she and her ten classmates couldn’t afford transportation, so the free rickshaw rides provided by ‘Bhai Jaan’ were a godsend.
To pay his daily family expenditures and to support the cause of Girl’s education, Arab Shah aka Bhai Jaan has only one source of income: a Rickshaw. With over 100 girls attending school every day, he currently works 20 pick-up and drop-off stints every day without costing the girls’ families a dime. He drives the rickshaw until 11 p.m. later in the day to cover other expenses.
Last year, the KPK government presented him with a financial prize as well as a certificate of recognition for his outstanding contributions to girls’ education. All the women and girls adore you, Bhai Jaan.
