On Friday, in a meeting of UNSC, members of the body vehemently opposed the US. Meanwhile, USA got support only from the Dominican Republic for its resolution.
Out of 15 member body, 11 members including two permanent members France and United Kingdom abstained. However, Russia and China strongly opposed extension of 13- year ban, which is due to expire on October 28. Mike Pompeo, the US Secretary of State, announcing the defeat of the resolution in a statement said “The Security Council failure to act decisively in defense of international peace and security is inexcusable.
