One person also sustained injuries while the veteran politician’s elder brother, Mushtaq Dasti, was killed in the shooting incident, accorfing to officials.

Police said the incident took place when a Panchayat (village council) session was being held to resolve a land dispute between two groups in a small village of Muzaffargarh, where Mushtaq was also present.

One of the groups in a fit of rage opened fire during the Panchayat meeting, leaving the ex-lawmaker’s brother dead on the spot, a police official told the media.
